Shawmut Named Top Place to Work in Massachusetts

Boston Globe Survey Based on Employee Feedback Boston, MA—November 10, 2008—Shawmut Design and Construction (www.shawmut.com), a leading national construction management firm, ranked fifth among the best places to work in Massachusetts, according to the debut edition of an employee-based survey project from The Boston Globe. The Globe’s 100 Top Places to Work magazine was published as a special supplement to the Sunday edition on November 9. Produced by the same team that compiles the 21-year-old Globe 100 report of the best-performing public companies in Massachusetts, the Top Places to Work recognizes the most progressive companies in the state. About 600 organizations participated with more than 120,000 employees providing feedback on company leadership, compensation and training, diversity/inclusion, career development, family-friendly flexibility, and values and ethics. Private companies and non-profits as well as publicly-held businesses were included in the analysis. “We’re honored to receive this recognition, and think it’s a wonderful tribute to the unique company culture that drives our team here at Shawmut,” said CEO Tom Goemaat. “This survey highlights what I see as a company-wide commitment to building a challenging, rewarding place to work where our staff is empowered and supported in being the best they can be.” Shawmut has appeared five years in a row among the top five best places to work according to the Boston Business Journal, three years in a row in the Providence Business News listing – including number one last year – and both the Crane’s New York City and the State of New York listings. To qualify for the Globe 100’s Top Places to Work, a company must have more than 100 employees in Massachusetts.
