Boston, MA – July 22, 2009 – Shawmut Design and Construction (www.shawmut.com), a leading national construction management firm, in collaboration with Boston's John D. O'Bryant School of Math and Science, proudly recognizes the recipient of its second annual Construction Management Career Scholarship. At a recent awards assembly for John D. O'Bryant School seniors, Shawmut Design and Construction's Managing Director of the People Strategies Team Lisa DeAngelis awarded Jean Lotin with the 2009 Scholarship.

The Scholarship is awarded by Shawmut annually to an outstanding student who has demonstrated an ambition in the construction industry at the John D. O'Bryant School, a college-preparatory school located in Boston's Roxbury neighborhood with a specialized, rigorous academic program focused on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Jean will receive up to $5,000 for each of four academic years while studying construction management at an accredited post-secondary school, up to a total of $20,000. Throughout college, pending academic performance, the student will be welcome to a summer internship at Shawmut, and upon graduation, will be invited to join Shawmut's Construction Management Skills Training (CMST) program – positioning the student for a full-time job at Shawmut, a top-ranked national construction management firm. The CMST program is a 36-month, on-the-job training program during which students experience each of the three main construction management disciplines: Project Management, Site Supervision, and Estimating, supplemented by one-on-one mentoring and continuous training and development.

"This scholarship was designed for promising students exactly like Jean, and we eagerly anticipate the contributions he will make in the field and with Shawmut."

Jean is an exceptional student with a 3.8 GPA, and last year participated in the Project Link summer program through the Harvard Graduate School of Design. He will attend Northeastern University this fall where he will major in architecture.  

Community involvement is a core value for Shawmut, and the scholarship is an expression of Shawmut's dedication to giving back to its community, as well as its firm commitment to both diversity and training. The relationship between Shawmut and the O'Bryant School began in 2007 when Shawmut managers made classroom presentations about working in the field. The Shawmut managers took students on trips to the Shawmut jobsites, and held a job shadow day in the Shawmut office on Harrison Avenue.
