Shawmut Takes Home Three AGC Build New England Awards Including Best in Show

Boston, October 21, 2005 -- Shawmut Design and Construction took home three awards at last night’s Associated General Contractors’ (AGC) Build New England Awards Gala. The AGC awards program recognizes the owner/developer, primary designer, and contractor equally for their professional roles in building facilities throughout New England. The awards honor exceptional project teams for their collaborative and innovative approach to the building process.

Trinity Church’s Multi-year Restoration, Renovation and Expansion Program received the Chairman’s Award, also known as the “Best in Show” award. The team of Trinity Church in the City of Boston, Goody Clancy, and Shawmut was recognized for their ability to not only safeguard the original aesthetics of the structure but also preserve and expand the intended function of the building as a living, breathing part of the community.

The University of Hartford’s Integrated Science, Engineering and Technology (ISET) Complex received a Merit Award. The team of University of Hartford, William Wilson Associated Architects, and Shawmut was recognized for their remarkable flexibility and quick thinking. The project involved the renovation of existing science classrooms, seminar rooms, and offices and the addition of a 37,000 square foot biology and chemistry teaching facility with lab space.

The 2004 Democratic National Convention received a Performance Award. The team of Boston2004, The Primary Group (now ICON architecture) and Shawmut was recognized for completing the near-impossible task of turning a premier sporting and entertainment arena into the site for the 2004 Democratic National Convention in just six weeks, then restoring the arena to its original condition in just 13 days.

“Shawmut is honored to have been a part of three exceptional project teams,” said Thomas Goemaat, President and CEO of Shawmut. He added, “Each project truly exemplified teamwork and innovation, and we want to extend congratulations to Trinity Church, Goody Clancy, Boston2004, ICON architecture, University of Hartford, and William Wilson Architects.”
