A culture of employee ownership

At Shawmut, we do more than just construct buildings—we build relationships, foster growth, and drive excellence in every way. Our commitment to these values is reflected in our Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), a cornerstone of our culture.

Ownership At Our Core

Empowering People, Projects, and Culture

As a 100% employee-owned company, our people have a vested interest in the success of our clients, projects, and each other. This sense of ownership empowers every employee to take initiative, be proactive, and continuously seek ways to innovate. It touches every aspect of our company—from fostering a collaborative and inclusive workplace to delivering exceptional client experiences. The ESOP instills a shared purpose and accountability, aligning everyone’s efforts towards the common goal of building success together.

If I had to say one word about our working relationship with Shawmut it would be that we trust them. It is their innate ability to create a relationship of trust, a partnership between the designer and the clients that helps to achieve the impossible within the budgeted parameters. We trust their intelligence, hard work, thoroughness and commitment to each project.

It’s been incredible experiencing Shawmut’s culture around DEI. The people that I work alongside really care about making people feel included, seen & heard. Because we are an ESOP, we all care about how people feel and are represented – when people feel included and supported at work, they tend to perform at a higher level and produce better results. The fact that we prioritize excellent client service, safety and teamwork while simultaneously ensuring we celebrate as many major cultural events as possible, shows that we really can do it all. It just takes going the extra mile, and because we have such a diverse staff pool who cares about DEI culture, that’s how we get it done.

The Shawmut team developed an impressive approach to the sustainability vision for the HMTX Headquarters and represented that clearly in the interview process. The team was a unanimous selection as the builder. The construction team brings a high level of knowledge and commitment to the project and as construction continues for this important project, their work has been exemplary.

Shawmut has cultivated a true collaborative, team-based environment that is key to the success of our projects. I’ve had the opportunity to work with some of the most talented people in the industry at Shawmut—and having that experience is invaluable for my own career development. I am also proud to work for a company that prioritizes work/life balance—and the support and flexibility Shawmut offers has made this balance a breeze.
