Los Angeles Business Journal Names Greg Skalaski to Thriving in Their 40s

Awards Corporate / Commercial Education Greg Skalaski Life Sciences Los Angeles

Recognized for his impact on the business, industry, and LA community, executive vice president of the West region Greg Skalaski was named to Los Angeles Business Journal’s Thriving in Their 40s. Read about Greg’s accomplishments below and in his LABJ feature profile here.

Just passing the five-year mark as executive vice president of Shawmut’s West region, Greg has led the Los Angeles team in diversifying its offerings and increasing its average project size. With a focus on growing its education, ground-up commercial, and life science portfolio, the team completed major projects in the past year: UCLA’s Nimoy Theater, one of the largest cross-laminated timber buildings in the city at 843 N Spring Street, and 50,000 square feet of lab space (repurposed from a warehouse and office building).

With more than 20 years of experience working on Los Angeles projects, Greg understands the unique impact of supply chain volatility and labor challenges on construction in Southern California, and has built out a skilled preconstruction team to identify and resolve issues before a project begins, providing certainty of outcome for clients.

Greg recognizes the critical importance of supporting the LA community. He is a board member and active supporter of multiple Southern California organizations that drive STEM career awareness and opportunity for underrecognized groups. He has been a member of the Los Angeles Advisory Board for The Posse Foundation, a comprehensive and renowned college access and youth leadership development program, for five years and counting. In 2022, Greg began Shawmut’s partnership with STEM Advantage, a program that mentors, prepares, and inspires underrepresented students pursuing careers in STEM through paid internships, mentorships, and scholarships. Shawmut has hired both Posse Scholars and STEM Advantage students for internships and its Construction Management Skills Training program, a three-year rotation that introduces recent college graduates to the three main functions of construction: project management, site supervision, and estimating.
