What is the biggest challenge currently facing your industry and how are you responding to it? Time. The adage “time is money” speaks even more true in design and construction. Clients are looking for design sets faster and construction to start sooner. This is leading to more collaborative efforts between construction and design teams to identify scope and accurate budgets for the client. I have responded to this approach in my role with design-assist collaboration with subcontractors to provide insight to the designers’ intent and constructability.
What is the best advice you have ever received? My dad always told me that growth is like a rubber band – you stretch yourself, but when you return, you aren’t the same as before; you have grown a little.
Where do you see yourself in five years? My goal is to continue growing my career at Shawmut Design and Construction.
What moment changed your life more than any other? Having kids. Prior to having kids, you can always keep working and come home late. I have adjusted that balance to make sure I am home to see my wife and kids.
What is your greatest attribute that you bring to your job? Structure and organization.
