Shawmut is pleased to announce the completion of three restaurants for Garrett Harker: Eastern Standard Kitchen and Drinks, All That Fish + Oyster, and Equal Measure. The iconic Eastern Standard reopens in a new location alongside the two other concepts in Fenway’s Bower development.
In partnership with designer Parts and Labor Design and architect Boston Urban Properties, Shawmut built out 20,000 square feet to create Harker’s two new restaurants, cocktail bar, and the café set to open in 2024.
The new Eastern Standard pays homage to the original location, including the long marble bar backed by vintage mirrors, this time with a fluted millwork bar face and complemented by hand-poured terrazzo flooring. Throughout the restaurant’s 8,000 square feet, the Shawmut team installed finishes including intricate, handcrafted millwork, vaulted ceilings with fluted millwork trim, and a custom-patterned hardwood floor. Authentic stained glass is featured in a full-height wall and two doors.
The design for All That Fish + Oyster was inspired by fishermen’s ice huts and New England oyster shacks, with wood finishes, polished concrete floor, and bright colors. The centerpiece of the restaurant is the open kitchen, which includes a custom six-foot refrigerated oyster and seafood display case. The open-concept ceiling in the 3,000 square-foot space is painted black to allow the focus to be on the colors of the space, food, and views of Fenway Park.
Connected to Eastern Standard, Equal Measure is a 4,000 square-foot cocktail bar with a private dining room. Echoing its neighbor restaurant, the bars are millwork with marble tops and the back bar has antique mirrors. The bar and lounge area have a domed ceiling and custom-patterned marble floor, and the private dining room welcomes guests through fluted glass and steel sliding doors.
“Shawmut has roots in hospitality, so the team was very excited to play a part in renewing a Boston icon such as Eastern Standard and bringing to life more concepts from Garrett Harker,” said Dave Lyskowski, project executive, Shawmut. “The desirable location—near Fenway Park, close to the Landsdowne station, and in a mixed-use development—meant our team had to safely and proactively minimize the disturbance to the residents, commercial tenants, and general public, which we accomplished through extensive, detailed coordination and phased work.”
Eastern Standard, All That Fish + Oyster, and Equal Measure are the latest in Shawmut’s high-profile hospitality work in Boston, including the Four Seasons Hotel Boston public spaces renovation, suite and amenity renovations at The Charles Hotel, Ramsay’s Kitchen, Coquette, Wolfgang’s Steakhouse, and the full historic renovation of The Langham, Boston.
