Noteworthy: This design/build project included a 3,300-square-foot renovation to existing space while the surrounding structure was occupied, as well as a 300’x25’ mechanical shed and a solutions prep room (GMP) addition. Shawmut added a geometric blender (V-blender) room, a fluid bed room, transfer spaces, gowning areas and wash rooms to the existing space. Additionally, the explosion-proof room was upgraded to house a sigma mixer. The cleanrooms built for this space are ISO 8 classified.
The space was upgraded to house multiple cGMP production suites that will allow the company to expand production capabilities. The systems implemented to feed the fluid bed included a clean-steam boiler, air compressor, and AHU.
The Shawmut team ensured vibrations were minimized and dust was sealed within the construction spaces as GMP operations continued throughout construction in adjacent rooms. Start-ups of the GMP equipment were coordinated with the subcontractor and our HVAC schedule. Extensive coordination was required to bring the fluid bed into the space. The team also coordinated the opening of the existing roof for a crane to lift the fluid vertically and install the lifter/tippler into place.
