Confidential Healthcare Institution – Physical Therapy and Imaging Center
Brooklyn, NY
This project involved the comprehensive reimagining of the lobby, reception areas, and the addition of a new second-floor fitness center, aimed at attracting potential tenants. Shawmut’s renovations included significant updates to the building’s reception area, gallery, and lobby.
A key feature of the renovation is an oversized custom clock by Swedish designers Humans since 1982, the largest of its kind in the country. This unique piece, fabricated in Sweden, features 280 smaller clocks and is prominently displayed above a 20-foot reception desk, which boasts a stone transaction top, decorative insert, and integral LED lighting.
The team also installed new terrazzo flooring and full-height, acid-etched laminated glass panels with colored interlayers over the existing marble walls. Additional integrated lighting elements and art installations were added to enhance the overall aesthetic.
Exterior renovations included the construction of a new entrance, canopy, and updated signage. The new 8,500-square-foot fitness center on the second floor features locker rooms, a reception area, cardio platforms, weight and cross-training areas, and a game room. Elevator service was extended from the parking and lobby levels to accommodate access to the new gym.
A primary challenge of this project was maintaining full operational capacity of the building throughout construction, including the sidewalk and exterior entrance, ensuring minimal disruption for tenants and visitors.
