For Balmain’s first west coast flagship, Shawmut did a complete renovation of the 2,900-square-foot space on Melrose Place—originally built in 1948—which included vaulted ceilings, plastered walls, and black marble flooring. The one-of-a-kind marble flooring had to be assembled like a puzzle as each shape was unique. The team placed full plywood sheathing throughout the interior walls for structural integrity and completely underpinned the courtyard perimeter to ensure that the stone flooring remained intact. The team renovated the courtyard to the rear of the building, which provides VIP access to the boutique.
