The Moakley Cancer Center expansion at Boston Medical Center features a sophisticated four-story-plus-penthouse vertical addition. This project integrates new construction with existing facilities to support critical expansions in Emergency, Trauma, and Centralized Surgical units. The addition also includes specialized spaces for the Audiology and Digestive Disorder Departments, as well as versatile shell spaces on the basement, second floor, and penthouse levels.

The construction involved extensive vertical expansion and minor renovations to existing spaces. Key elements of the build included complex structural integration with the original facility, ensuring structural continuity and operational efficiency. The Highly Collaborative Project Delivery method facilitated seamless coordination among project teams, minimizing disruptions to hospital operations and enhancing project execution.

The addition not only augments the functional capacity of the campus but also enhances its interaction with the surrounding community, incorporating new pedestrian pathways and an exterior canopy for improved user experience.
