For its largest location in the world at the time, Bottega Veneta chose a space on Madison Ave to house its maison, transforming three landmarked, formerly-private townhouses into one, five-floor retail space. The project involved the full interior fit-out and façade renovation of the 1879 townhouses while still maintaining the appearance of three distinct townhouse facades. Custom finishes throughout include column, ceiling, and fascia cladding, wood and stone flooring, brushed brass ceilings, and marmorino plaster walls.

Throughout the fit-out, Shawmut took a unique and careful building approach to maintain full integrity of the façades through examination, specialty brick replication and aging processes, and chemical analysis to match grout. One of the focal points of the flagship, the two floating, curved staircases, were achieved through true team collaboration. To work through the logistics of installing the staircases, the team created 3D models. No joints could show on the stone of the entry stairway, so the manufacturer in Italy procured a solid 14’x11’ piece for the landing which housed all the support attachments. All structural components of the staircases are hidden above the ceilings, leaving nothing structural exposed in the staircase. Both staircases have a monolithic look, with curved stone handrails and curved glass guardrails; the four-story open staircase has wood stair treads and the feature staircase near the store entry has basaltina stone stair treads.
