The Judith Mara Center for Visual Arts spans 12,000 square feet across the eighth floor and a portion of the seventh floor of Carson Hall. The renovation involved comprehensive interior demolition of the two floors, structural reinforcements, and the replacement of five major skylights. The project also included fitting out art studios, classrooms, and office spaces, alongside installing new mechanical, electrical, plumbing, communications, and audio-visual systems. Conducted in a fully occupied academic building, the work required careful coordination with students and faculty, utilizing shared elevators for access. Thanks to meticulous planning and safety measures, the areas below remained completely dry and dust-free throughout the renovation. Crane deliveries of steel, glass, skylight framing, and equipment were scheduled during weekends to minimize disruption in the busy Upper East Side neighborhood.
