A historic renovation created the Philip Roth Personal Library at Newark Public Library, honoring the Pulitzer Prize-winning author’s legacy in his hometown of Newark, New Jersey. The project transformed a double-height reading room within the historic Italian Renaissance-style building, adding new MEP systems, as well as humidity and temperature controls, to create a museum-quality environment. The custom-built space now houses Roth’s personal collection, including books, furniture, and memorabilia. Historical details, such as plaster molding and wainscoting, were meticulously restored, and new wood flooring was installed to return the room to its original luster.
