This design-build project involved a 3,300-square-foot renovation of an occupied facility, alongside the construction of a 300’ x 25’ mechanical shed and a GMP solutions prep room addition. Shawmut expanded the existing space with a geometric V-blender room, fluid bed room, transfer areas, gowning rooms, and washrooms. The explosion-proof room was upgraded to accommodate a sigma mixer, and cleanrooms were built to ISO 8 classification.
The upgrades created multiple cGMP production suites, enhancing the company’s production capabilities. Key systems included a clean-steam boiler, air compressor, and air handling unit (AHU) for the fluid bed.
Throughout the project, the Shawmut team ensured minimal vibrations and dust containment as GMP operations continued in adjacent areas. Coordination was critical for the start-up of GMP equipment, including integrating the fluid bed. This involved opening the existing roof to lift the fluid bed into place with a crane and installing the lifter/tippler.
