This extensive historic renovation for the legendary Waldorf Astoria was executed while the hotel remained fully operational.

Shawmut performed improvements to the Park Avenue lobby, façade, exterior canopy system, and motor court lobby. The lobby featured a full renovation, including the installation of intricate, custom-built chandeliers. The team restored the famed Spirit of Achievement statue above the front entry, which included removing her from the entry, repairing the oxidized areas, and painstakingly matching the existing paint by remixing custom colors. The statue was moved by crane, which necessitated closing Park Avenue for eight hours. The façade and canopy scope required phased street closures and rerouting of pedestrian traffic and work on the motor court lobby required extensive phasing and noise control techniques.
