BOSTON – Shawmut Design and Construction has announced the promotion of John Tobin to director of hotels. In his new role, Tobin will continue to build on the division’s exponential growth and bolster the firm’s market expansion plans.
As director of hotels, Tobin will grow Shawmut’s market share while continuing to deliver the top-notch client service it is known for. A key member of the leadership team since 2008, Tobin has cultivated and maintained relationships with some of Shawmut’s most prestigious clients, including Le Bernardin and The New York Palace Hotel. Shawmut is currently engaged in work on Nobu Ryokan in Malibu, The Maritime Hotel in New York, and the InterContinental New York Barclay Hotel, the single largest project in the firm’s history at $175 million.
“During his time at Shawmut, John has played a key role in the growth of the hospitality division and has worked with marquee clients such as the Waldorf Astoria New York and Wequassett Resort in Chatham,” said Randy Shelly, vice president of Shawmut Design and Construction. “We are thrilled to have John heading up the division and are excited to see him take the team to the next level.”
Tobin’s promotion comes on the heels of the hotels division’s 246% growth over the past three years, and a projected overall 1,000% growth by the end of 2015. As they grow, the team will continue to focus on complex luxury hotel renovation projects drawing on extensive experience within occupied environments in tight urban areas.
Most recently, Shawmut has completed Chevalier at the Baccarat Hotel in New York, the lobby and Little Park restaurant at the Smyth Hotel in New York and multiple renovation projects at the New York Hilton, Sheraton Boston Hotel as well as the Boston, Brooklyn, and Newport Marriott Hotels.
