Providence, RI – Newport, Rhode Island has long been a top summer destination drawing crowds from across the globe. Just in time for the 2015 summer season, The Newport Marriott Hotel, owned by Cornerstone Real Estate Advisors, has been transformed with a new coastal nautical look and welcomes guests with updated facilities thanks to an massive renovation by Shawmut Design and Construction in conjunction with The John Hardy Group.
The majority of renovations were completed on April 7th, with the interior harbor facing bar to be completed by April 25th and the addition of a new bar deck, which will provide amazing views of the harbor, to be completed in mid-June. The project, whose design process began only a year ago, was completed on an extremely aggressive schedule with work beginning onsite in late November 2014. The transformation began by completely gutting the hotel main floors, followed by an extensive renovation to create new areas/items that included: a garage entry, lobby, common areas, restaurant, specialty bars, M Club, elevator upgrades, great room and atrium enhancements, and meeting rooms.
Special attention has been paid to all elements of this project showcasing the true art of renovation and design. Upon entering the newly renovated lobby, guests are greeted at the reception desk which has been carefully designed and constructed to resemble the hull of a small racing boat. Opposite the reception desk, guests are welcomed into a rope garden surrounding an elegant water feature through which you are lead to the new lobby bar where guests can congregate and relax. The Newport Marriott Hotel’s great room features a stunning atrium, with the entire space being transformed to showcase a nautical theme. Elements include: water features, a martini bar and lounge, and creation of private room balconies. The new room balconies are delineated by a several custom design sail masts and sail cloth separators and elegant glass railings which allow guests to overlook the new features of the great room. Some of the new features of the great room include a water wall which is canvased with a sail pergola to create a comfortable lounge area outside the lobby for guests. As you continue down the main corridor towards the harbor, you are welcomed by a new 98 seat restaurant and bar area which boast amazing views of the harbor through large glass windows that bring light and color into the newly renovated space while also showcasing the beauty of Newport. The nautical and coastal feel of the new space continues to be accentuated by the rope features at the banquets in the restaurant. This newly renovated area also includes several new meeting rooms and a new M Club for guests which boasts similar views of the harbor as the restaurant and bar.
