Shawmut welcomes two key members to the firm’s Tri-State division. Playing integral roles to support anticipated 2019 growth, Wendy Koshner steps in as director of business development and Daniel Abbruzzese joins the firm as project executive. This announcement comes as Shawmut confirms 24% year-over-year division growth in 2018 and is forecasted to show a 43% growth in 2019.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Wendy Koshner as our new director of business development,” said Sharon Cadman, vice president at Shawmut. “As we look ahead to accelerating division growth this year, Wendy will play a crucial role in expanding Shawmut’s presence throughout the New York metro area.” Steven Giordano, vice president at Shawmut who co-leads the Tri-State division with Cadman, adds, “As the Tri-State division sets its eyes on expanding its healthcare and tenant interior verticals, we’re pleased that Daniel Abbruzzese is bringing his vast expertise in construction operations to our team. In this role, he’ll greatly contribute to increasing Shawmut’s market share within New York City’s healthcare sector.”
As a seasoned business development professional with more than 14 years of hands-on industry experience, Koshner will be focused on fostering strong client relationships and developing strategies and action plans to tackle markets and specific project pursuits for Shawmut’s Tri-State division. In partnering with executive and senior leadership, she’ll help carry the mission of expanding Shawmut’s portfolio within the institutional, cultural, and academic sectors and identify growth opportunities throughout the region.
Prior to joining Shawmut, Koshner held positions as director of marketing at RCDolner Construction, and, most recently, as business development director at STV Incorporated. Highly involved in community outreach, she has continuously partnered with ACE Mentor Program of Greater New York, a non-profit organization whose mission is to engage, excite, and enlighten high school students to pursue careers in architecture, engineering, and construction.
As project executive, Abbruzzese will be responsible for all project aspects, with a specific focus on procurement, financial controls, schedule adherence, and owner and design team coordination. Additionally, he’ll provide oversight to the project team and, as the key owner liaison, will be accountable for client satisfaction.
With more than 29 years of experience in managing technical projects and construction operations, Abbruzzese brings a highly diverse and complex hospital and healthcare portfolio to Shawmut’s Tri-State division, including previous posts as director of engineering at Northwell Health Huntington Hospital and vice president of facilities and plant operations at NYU-Winthrop Hospital. In addition to healthcare, Abbruzzese has specialized in facilities planning and the life science and tenant interiors sectors as the director of facilities services at North Shore LIJ Health Systems.
Koshner and Abbruzzese join Shawmut as the firm continues to meet significant milestones in the New York metro area. In addition to overall growth, the Tri-State team boasts a 58% growth in its healthcare vertical over the past three years. Tenant interiors has consistently expanded since 2017 and the team is projecting a 49% growth in 2019.
Over the last year, the group has worked with some of New York’s most prestigious academic, cultural, and healthcare institutions. Recent additions to Shawmut’s impressive roster in the area include projects with NYU Langone Medical Center, New York-Presbyterian, Columbia University, Park Avenue Synagogue, the Whitney Museum, and the Grolier Club.
