Noteworthy: Shawmut, in partnership with architect firm Svigals + Partners, completed a renovation and expansion of Yale School of Nursing’s Simulation Lab. The new 8,000-square-foot space includes high-tech, interactive classrooms, assessment labs, exam rooms, and updates to the Center for Biobehavioral Health Research and first floor café. The School of Nursing building is situated on the town lines of Orange and West Haven, so Shawmut started meeting with all stakeholders early on to ensure that potentially differing views regarding code compliance and logistics would be reconciled ahead of construction. Shawmut conducted page-turns and building walk-throughs to review logistics and scope with Orange and West Haven Building Inspectors and Fire Departments, and also Yale Fire. This early and proactive approach allowed the project to continue without schedule interruptions and ensured that all parties bought into the construction plans from the start.
